Zenless Zone Zero surpasses 40 million pre-registrations, beating Supercell's Squad Busters

HoYoverse’s upcoming action RPG Zenless Zone Zero has officially surpassed 40 million pre-registrations, landing on level footing with Supercell’s Squad Busters with three weeks still to go.

Launching globally on July 4th, Zenless Zone Zero’s level of interest is virtually unprecedented, and a record achievement for its Chinese developer.

After 10 million pre-registrations for Genshin Impact, HoYoverse set a target of five million for 2023 title Honkai: Star Rail. The gacha game ended up exceeding HoYoverse’s own estimations with approximately 23 million people pre-registering by the time of its release last spring, which led to 20 million launch day downloads, setting a new record for the industry.

The game’s major success since has seen it race to $1 billion and it currently leads over Genshin Impact in monthly revenue. Between the pair, HoYoverse’s reputation appears to have received a well-deserved boost as pre-registrations for its next game could well double those of Honkai: Star Rail.

A 40 million target was a dramatic increase over five million to begin with, and to have actually reached that goal is no mean feat. It’s a level of excitement in the buildup to launch that few mobile games compete with.

Supercell’s Squad Busters may be one of them, but it only just reached its 40 million pre-registration target on launch day. Zenless Zone Zero, meanwhile, has "exceeded" that same target with three more weeks to go.

Now that all pre-registration goals have been reached and celebratory rewards are guaranteed, it’s unclear just how much higher this number will go in the next three weeks. Based on HoYoverse’s penchant for proficiency, though, a lofty 50 million pre-registrations by July 4th doesn’t look so distant anymore…
