Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes receive Best Mobile Game nominations at The Game Awards 2017

Both Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Warriors have been nominated in the new Best Mobile Game category at The Game Awards 2017.

The category was originally the Best Mobile/Handheld Game, but has now been split into two distinct categories. Nintendo has the most nominations in both categories – two in mobile, and all five in the handheld award.

The remaining mobile game nominated are Ustwo's Monument Valley 2, Broken Rules' Old Man's Journey, and Hidden Folks by indie developers Adriaan de Jongh and Sylvain Tegroeg.

Little impact

ARTE's Bury Me, My Love received a nod in the Games for Impact category, and was the only other mobile game to receive a nomination in the main categories.

Interestingly, Tecent's Honor of Kings was nominated for Best Chinese Game, despite being released in the country back in November 2015. The category will be judged exclusively by viewers of The Game Awards in China.

Plenty of games released on Nintendo's Switch received nominations, especially those developed by Nintendo. Both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey have received six nominations across numerous categories, including Best Game.

The Game Awards 2017 will take place on December 7th. The entire event will be streamed on Twitch, YouTube, and more. A full list of nominees can be found on its website.
