First mooted in Nikkei at the end of October, the same source has now suggested that Nintendo will open up to some form of in-app purchases for the 3DS with the release of the new Fire Emblem tactical RPG, Fire Emblem: Kakusei or 'Awakening'.
The game is due in March in Japan, and it's suggested that additional content - most likely new levels - will be made available with payment either by prepaid cards or credit cards.
The cost will be hundreds of yen, or several dollars per pack.
It's also expected that third party publishers will be able to hook into the new system during the summer, and it will be supported by Nintendo's forthcoming Wii U console.
