The CoLab partners with Universally Speaking to boost quality of indie games

UK publisher The CoLab has formed a long-term partnership with QA and localisation firm Universally Speaking to provide indie studios with high-quality support, intended to be comparable to that of major game productions.
The partnership will involve Universally Speaking working closely with The CoLab and its developers from early development stages, prioritising direct collaboration over traditional outsourcing.
Both parties said the approach promotes open communication, shared responsibility and constructive feedback to improve quality and strengthen relationships between publishers and studios. They believe that transparency, open communication and hands-on teamwork will lead to the creation of better games.
The collaboration reflects a broader shift in game development as studios adapt to remote work, tighter budgets and rising quality expectations.
Shared values
“The relationship we share with the Universally Speaking team is perfectly aligned with our values as a company," said The CoLab co-founder and head of production Mark Faulkner.
“To ensure that quality is paramount, they work with our developers in an honest and open manner, speaking to them directly with kindness and clarity. We couldn’t ask for a better partner.”
Universally Speaking head of QA Joe Corrall commented: “We're very excited to be joining up with The CoLab and working side-by-side at all levels to deliver the next big wave of independent games through a new indie-centric commercial model.
“It's an absolute pleasure to work so openly with both publisher and developer alike, ensuring that every hour of effort has maximum return for the players, already shown with the debut Fireside Feelings getting a 97% positive score on Steam. With collaboration and integrity at the very heart of The CoLab, we know there are great things in store.”
