Unity 6 pulled from China in favour of localised engine

Unity 6 has gone offline in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, and future updates will not be available to users in these regions.
As reported by 80 Level, the change comes as Unity looks to comply with local regulations.
In a statement, the company claimed the changes were aimed at ensuring services were more in line with the needs of Chinese users, with Unity China replacing the game engine with a localised version called Tuanjie.
The platform includes features tailored for Chinese developers and operates independently from the global Unity engine.
“Some Chinese users have noticed that Unity 6 products have been removed from the shelves in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau," Unity wrote in a statement addressing the situation.
“Unity 6 and subsequent versions will no longer be provided to Chinese users, and related needs will be taken over by Unity Engine.
“This adjustment is aimed at ensuring that developers can obtain game engine services that are more in line with the needs of the Chinese market.”
Shifting support to China
The company said that in 2025 it will enhance Unity 6 features and rendering capabilities to better serve Chinese users.
Unity China will continue to support Unity 2022 LTS and earlier versions, ensuring no impact on ongoing or released projects. Games built with Unity can still be launched globally without restrictions.
