YouTube military history content creator Yarnhub Animation has raised $2.1 million after closing its community investment round.
Yarnhub will use the funds to support the development of the WWII combat game Brass Rain, expand its team and primarily focus investment on production.
The team also plans to develop games using Unreal Engine 5, the same technology behind its animated films, which will directly contribute to the game's development.
With an existing audience of 2.1m subscribers and 35m monthly views, Yarnhub aims to leverage its reach rather than rely heavily on marketing.
New experiences
Yarnhub is backed by more than 3,600 investors worldwide. The studio’s first title is set to be a free-to-play first-person shooter, with an eye on a 2026 global launch at present.
“This is a new and efficient way to drive game downloads and long-term retention, by building directly for the audience that already engages with our stories,” said Yarnhub CEO David Webb.
Yarnhub head of games Cyril Barrow commented: “The response from the community has been incredible.
“We’ve now assembled the core game team, and we’re in active pre-production validating core gameplay and long-term retention. Our audience isn’t just watching, they’re ready to play.”
