Just weeks after rejecting it and barring the app's notarisation for EU third-party stores, Apple has reversed its decision and approved UTM SE, an emulator for running classic software and games.

UTM SE is now freely available on iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS after being rejected last month.

The app's developer made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Shoutouts to the AltStore team for their help and to Apple for reconsidering their policy."

Take a trip down memory lane

UTM SE, which supports VGA graphics and terminal modes for text-only operating systems, allows users to run classic software and old-school games on PCs.

The app also emulates x86, PPC, and RISC-V architectures. Users can run pre-built machines or create their own configurations from scratch, as UTM SE is built from QEMU, a widely used emulator.

lthough UTM SE doesn't come with pre-installed operating systems, it does provide links to UTM's site, which offers guides for emulating Windows XP through Windows 11 and downloads for pre-built virtual Linux machines.
