Supercell shaking up Clash Royale's competitive scene with new 2v2 mode

Clan Battles could add a new dimension to tournaments
Supercell shaking up Clash Royale's competitive scene with new 2v2 mode

Supercell will be adding a new 2v2 mode to its hugely popular card-based MOBA Clash Royale.

The mode will see two teams of two players facing each other head-to-head in Clan Battle mode. Teams will be made up of two friends, one of whom invites the other to play within the game.

Clan Battle features a few balance changes to the game to ensure the game isn't too easy. Players will need to co-ordinate attacks to make the most of their more limited elixir bars, for example.

Shaking things up

The mode could have a major impact on Clash Royale's competitive gaming scene. The current one-on-one set-up saw its first tournament in December 2016.

Clash Royale has proven to be a huge success for Supercell despite competition from Pokemon GO. It helped push the studio's revenues to $2.3 billion in 2016 and is estimated to have generated $1 billion in revenue in its first year of release.
