Netmarble’s Lineage 2: Revolutionhas shot straight to the number one top grossing spot on Japan’s App Store following its release on August 23rd.
The RPG, a sequel to the hugely popular Lineage MMO on PC, has been a huge hit in its native South Korea.
The game reportedly generated revenues of more than $176 million during its first month despite only being available in South Korea.
Global conquest
Netmarble has since set its sights on releasing the game in other territories and has quickly found success in Japan.
The company claimed Lineage 2: Revolution has also set the record for the shortest time for a Korean game to reach the top grossing spot in Japan, taking just a single day.
The game was also number one in the free download charts on the App Store and Google Play. Before its Japan launch, the title had racked up 1.63 million pre-registrations.
Lineage 2: Revolution has also been launched in other Asian countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore. It’s set to hit the US mobile market later this year.
