Sonic Blitz gets cancelled as servers go offline today

• The game was soft launched more than a year ago in Brazil and the Philippines.

Sega and Rovio’s upcoming mobile game Sonic Blitz has been cancelled, with servers being shut down today.

The Sonic-based card game was originally soft launched in the Philippines in June 2025. It was also released in Brazil, but more than a year later, servers have gone down without ever reaching global launch.

Rovio announced the game’s closure to its Discord community on August 21st, noting that the decision was made as part of "broader change" at the studio.

Sonic Blitz was designed as a celebration of Sonic the Hedgehog’s legacy, allowing players in soft launch territories to build teams of 12 cards featuring characters from across the series.

The title reached over 200,000 downloads between Brazil and the Philippines, peaking at 47,000 installs last July, as per AppMagic estimates. Monthly installs remained above 10,000 for the rest of 2025, and after a lull in early 2026, spiked to 32,000 this June.

Despite the comeback this summer, the card game has ultimately been shuttered, with Discord and Twitter accounts also going down today.

Fans have shared the announcement outside of Discord with screenshots of the post on social media. The post explains:

"After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue development of Sonic Blitz. This decision is part of broader changes at our studio, and it means that the game will not move forward beyond the soft launch phase.

"We want to be clear that this decision is not a reflection of the passion, creativity or effort that went into making Sonic Blitz, nor the amazing support we received from our community throughout the development of the game."

Sonic’s other recent mobile venture Sonic Rumble also spent over a year in soft launch, ultimately releasing globally after multiple delays. It reached 10 million "early Rumblers" but didn’t meet early expectations, leading to a rebrand to Sonic Rumble Party.
