SEGA has partnered with Supercell to bring Sonic the Hedgehog and other characters to Squad Busters for a new crossover event.

The collaboration will see Squad Busters feature Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman from June 17th to July 7th 2025.

To celebrate the Sonic crossover, Supercell has released a limited-edition, 90s-style games magazine which includes nostalgic Sonic content.

The event also includes a Green Hill Zone map where Eggman causes chaos in his Death Egg Robot.

New experiences

“Our game team comprises people from different generations and cultural backgrounds, yet one of the many things we have in common is we all spent our formative years exploring the likes of Green Hill Zone or humming the Sonic the Hedgehog soundtrack on the way to school," said Supercell head of Squad Busters Johnathan Rowlands.

“If you look at the footprint the Sonic franchise has left on so many fans worldwide like myself, it’s phenomenal. So it’s a privilege for us as fans to bring Sonic, Tails and Knuckles into the colourful world of Squad Busters and pit them alongside - or against - the likes of the Barbarian King or Archer Queen!”

Sonic creative officer Takashi Iizuka commented: “I've been a longtime player of Supercell games, so I'm truly excited that the collaboration between Sonic and Squad Busters has become a reality.

“Not only Sonic, but also Tails and Knuckles bring their unique personalities to the battlefield, making team battles even more fun. I hope fans of both Squad Busters and Sonic around the world will enjoy this incredible collaboration.”

Squad Busters recently went through a major overhaul as Supercell released version 2.0 to reverse its fortunes and grow revenue. While the title has made more than $100m, the title hasn't met expectations against a porfolio in which every title has previously generated more than $1 billion.

The update saw an increase in revenue in the four weeks following its release to $1.8m, but has yet to hit the heights of Supercell's other titles.
