The Angry Birds Movie 3 will release in cinemas on January 29th, 2027, more than seven years on from the second film.

The theatrical release will therefore follow more than a decade on from the first entry in the franchise, 2016’s The Angry Birds Movie.

Reprising roles and newcomers

Previous Angry Birds film adaptations grossed over $500 million combined at the global box office. Streaming results since have signalled sufficient demand for a third title, resulting in a teaser trailer last June which confirmed development for The Angry Birds Movie 3.

Naturally, these films leverage Rovio’s Angry Birds brand, which began on mobile in 2009.

Paramount Pictures has taken over as distributor for the third entry but Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom and Danny McBride will still reprise their roles as Red, Chuck, Silver and Bomb.

They will be joined by a cast of comedy actors including Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, Lily James, Marcello Hernandez, Walker Scobell and Sam Richardson.

John Rice will serve as director, following his co-director credit on The Angry Birds Movie 2.

Rovio and Sega will produce the film - this being the first Angry Birds movie since the Rovio acquisition in 2023.

"The Angry Birds brand has demonstrated remarkable versatility, evolving from a global mobile gaming phenomenon to licensed products, animation and a thriving cinematic franchise," said Rovio CEO Alex Pelletier-Normand.

"It has been a deeply collaborative effort to create a film that will resonate with the millions who interact with our catalogue of games and products every day. We are confident that with this talented team at the helm, The Angry Birds Movie 3 will delight longtime fans and create new fans in those discovering our flock for the first time.”

Namit Malhotra’s production company Prime Focus Studios will also be involved, as will Flywheel Media, One Cool Group and dentsu.

"We’re very excited to be partnering with Paramount Pictures and extremely proud of our incredible cast," said producer John Cohen.

"Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Rachel and Danny returning to voice their fantastic characters, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of comedic talent. These are some of the funniest people out there today and we’re so thrilled to have them all on board."

Paramount Pictures president of worldwide marketing and distribution Marc Weinstock added: "Angry Birds transcends mediums and has been embraced and celebrated the world over.

"We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with Sega/Rovio and these other great partners to bring this latest instalment, featuring an incredible voice cast, to big screens everywhere."
