While publicly-owned companies legally have to release their financials, there's generally no such demand on private companies.
Nevertheless, perhaps to stop speculation about its performance, and demonstrate its solid business structure, Rovio has released its financials for the 2011 calendar year.
Total revenue was 75.4 million ($106.3 million)
Earnings before tax were 48 million ($67.6 million), which was 64 percent of total revenue.
In comparison, EA Mobile's FY12 revenue was $269 million, Gameloft's 2011 revenue was 164 million, while Glu Mobile's 2011 sales were $66.2 million.
All systems go
"The strong growth in revenue clearly demonstrates the popularity of the Angry Birds brand." said Mikael Hed, Rovio CEO.
"The heavy investments made in 2011 to all business areas will be seen in future products. To ensure continuous success we need to be creative and stay focused on entertaining our millions of fans by continuously developing new and innovative products and services."
Breaking down its revenue, Rovio's consumer products (including merchandising and licensing) accounted for around 30 percent of revenue.
The company said it's working with over 200 licensing partners.
Need a bigger office
By the end of 2011, Rovio's total downloads were 648 million, with around 200 million monthly active users across all platforms.
Rovio ended 2011 with 224 employees, up from 28 at the start of the year.
