Considering its status as the second largest global PC and laptop maker, Acer hasn't been as clear as the likes of HP or Asus about its plan for tablets.
Chairman J. T. Wang has been talking strategically about how he thinks the market will develop however.
Open robot
As a supporter of Google's Android OS, he's been keen to stress that such open platforms have a longterm advantage over closed operating systems.
Indeed, he's happy to predict that Apple will be limited to 20-30 percent of the tablet market as it matures.
Still, with Acer's debut device thought to be restricted by the availability of Google's tablet-friendly Android 3.0 until early 2011, it looks like Apple will have around a five million plus headstart before the opposition gets out of the blocks.
