Sony Ericsson has suffered lately, having missed out on the early days of the smartphone craze. It already stated that an Android handset was planned, though the system's 'immaturity' was causing it to hold off on rushing such a device to market.
SE's VP of marketing, Peter Ang, has now told DigiTimes that his company will be holding out for the 2.0 version of Google's Android operating system, citing an expected range of additional multimedia support as the reason for the delay.
T-Mobile only just rolled out the 1.5 Cupcake version of the Android firmware, however, so it could be a while before a new iteration becomes available.
But this could actually be an astute move on behalf of the struggling mobile partnership, which recently announced an amalgamation of brands into one, encompassing entertainment-based focus of its products. Hopefully the new firmware will prove to be a stable platform for Sony Ericsson to relaunch itself.
