It used to be the case that games were made about films: the quality of films made about games suggests it should have stayed that way too - as the likes of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat painfully show.
Still, Outfit7 is one of an increasing number of mobile companies looking to take their assets and sell them at consumers outside of the smartphone arena, with the company signing a deal with talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME).
The studio, which is behind the Talking Friends range of apps on iOS and Android, is looking to target television, films and books.
The business of show
WME is set to represent Outfit7 and its content, although the developer's strategy when it comes to making this move isn't yet clear.
"With over 65 million downloads, Talking Tom Cat has secured his place in people's hearts the world over, and he has already had a cameo appearance on NBC's Modern Family," said CEO Andrej Nabergoi.
"He's a character that people want to see in new entertainment mediums and we have been getting the same feedback about the newly launched Talking Ben the Dog.
"We look forward to work with WME to extend both properties and the entire Talking Friends collection into books, film and TV."
Outfit7 claims to be enjoying an average of 15 million downloads every month, with users having made more than 400,000 videos of their Talking Friends exploits, either uploaded to YouTube and Facebook or sent via email or MMS.
