Having already made quite a mark amongst the PC gaming community, Minecraft appears to be building a similarly fervent base on smartphones.
In a tweet posted by Mojang's business developer Daniel Kaplan, Minecraft - Pocket Edition downloads from both Android and iOS have been pegged at 700,000 over the course of the game's first two months on sale.
Speculate to accumulate
"We have sold over 700 000 copies," said Kaplan in the tweet, branding the achievement as "quite impressive".
Kaplan went on to state that the game is currently amassing around 5,000 downloads a day, with some of that success down to the game's 10c/10p sale on Android Market one of the headline games in Google's promotion celebrating Android Market's then 10 billion app downloads.
Said sale, however, "fudged up" the studio's stats according to Kaplan, with the Mojang man suggesting there's internal speculation as to the game's true sales on the platform.
