One of the first games to use PlayMob's charity in-app purchase API, US developer PerBlue has announced the results of the Food for Good campaign within its mobile/web MMOG Parallel Kingdom.
838 of the $5.50 Soup Can Hats were purchased, with 2,508 meals vouchers being sent to SOS Children's Kenyan famine appeal. 80 percent of the net revenue after Apple's cut was passed onto the charity.
Hats were purchased in over 27 countries, with US representing 75 percent of the 709 unique buyers, while 60 players purchased multiple hats, including two players who fully engaged with the donation mechanism, buying over 20 hats each.
Pat on the hat
"The partnership between PlayMob and PerBlue has set the bar for virtual giving campaigns," said PerBlue's CEO, Justin Beck.
"We are so happy with the final results of the initiative. Parallel Kingdom has some of the most generous players around; thank you to all who gave."
Jude Ower, CEO of PlayMob added, "Giving back in the real world requires community and support, and this is what gamers do best.
"This campaign is the first of many with PerBlue. Its players are some of the first users of our global GiverBoard, a tool for showing game players the collective good they can do just by playing games."
