Android Market submissions surpass 100,000, claims AndroLib
While talk had suggested Android Market had already sailed pass the 100,000 apps marks, app tracker AndroLib claims the actual number of titles available on the marketplace falls short by around 17,000 apps.

In a blog post made on the site, AndroLib claims it is confident that more than 100,000 apps have been submitted to Google for review since the marketplace made its debut.

However, a combination of those caught up in the evaluation process and apps removed from sales means consumers can only get their hands on around 83,000 titles.

Surging submissions

"When AndroLib launched in June 2009, barely 5,000 applications and games had been submitted to the Android Market," the firm says in the entry.

"This number quickly grew overtime exponentially. By the end of 2009, it would cross 20,000. Today, we are happy to announce this number surpassed 100,000."

Indeed, AndroLib's numbers suggest there has been a sharp uptake in the number of apps submitted to Android Market in 2010, with March's total of just over 30,000 more than trebling in the four months that followed.

"The growth in the number of applications posted on the Android market is a testament of how excited developers from around the world are about the Android platform," AndroLib continues.

"As more and more users buy Android phones, users want to see an increase in the number of quality applications."

AndroLib estimates that monthly submissions now top 17,000 apps, up from just under 1,700 new apps year on year.
