Puzzle games are by far the biggest category on the App Store, accounting for 19.1 per cent of iPhone games so far, according to stats from Mobclix.
The company offers live tracking of iPhone apps, with its figures claiming there are now 5,695 games on the App Store - 23.5 per cent of the overall catalogue.
1,943 of them are puzzlers, with the next most popular genres being Arcade (1,231), Action (1,184), Family (907) and Kids (695):
The Mobclix stats also show that 76.7 per cent of iPhone games are paid, compared to 23.3 per cent that are free - this includes Lite demos of paid games.
There's no doubt that the App Store is an increasingly crowded place if you're trying to launch a puzzle game, particularly if it doesn't offer any new features.
