Diary of a Promiscuous Gamer: Spent another $4.99, fat-fingered 512 gems by mistake, but love the snow angels
As game executive Bing Gordon famously put it (about) in 2010, "This is the most promiscuous app audience in the history of mankind".

So this is the weekly diary of a promiscuous gamer.

1. Clash of Clans (Supercell)

Disaster. Was fiddling around to check out some details of the in-game currency and accidentally spent 512 gems on upgrading an Archer Tower to level 9 - which took 4 days. I now have the grand total of 32 gems left. Although, as I am no longer playing the game, this is less of a disaster than it otherwise could have been.

2. Samurai Siege (Space Ape)

The best thing I've seen all week is the Christmas theme update, in which your little workers make snow angels (see below). It's so sweet. In other news, two hours left until my Castle upgrades to level 6.

3. Friendly Fire (Red Robot)

A big week in the Friendly Fire camp. Encouraged by the Black Friday sale, I made my first in-app purchase, spending $4.99 to unlock the third constructor. I also unlocked The Patriot, The Airstrike and The Ol' Thumper. Attacked someone in Saudi Arabia and won. Really enjoying this, especially thanks to the additional frisson on its location-based element.

4. QuizUp (Plain Vanilla)

Playing this game less and less, mainly because there are too many categories, while in the few that I play - Novels, Lord of the Rings, History: General, Economics, and General Knowledge - the question set is repeating and highly variable in terms of balance between obscure and obvious.

5. Fast & Furious 6: The Game (Kabam)

Interesting new race mode addition with the Race War Trials, which are a timed series of challenges you play for event points and, if you're good enough, other rewards. Otherwise just played the Daily Races. Upgraded my exhaust and carburettor (again).

6. Tank Nation (Wormhole Games)

I've been building up my second gatling gun tank, including its new commander who neatly regenerates some health after each turn. I've also been playing multiplayer mode to earn enough Tank Tokens to make a new part. Got a heavy tread. But despite daily grind, I still can't complete level 10.

7. Galaxy Factions (Coco)

A bit of a backwards week. I now have a fairly decent base (but only level 19), but haven't really got into the single player mode, or even joined an Alliance. But I am still awed by the 3D graphics (below).

8. Battle Command! (Spacetime Studios)

Not finding much to get my teeth into in this city/army-building game. Seems to be taking a long time to build up resources, haven't bothered with a single player mission or joining an alliance yet.

9. CSR Classics (NaturalMotion)

Am I being perverse? I like these classic cars when they are beat up. Not when they are shiny. Also, I find CSR games to be a little in-your-face when it comes to upgrading in the early stages. This provides a good comparison for my Fast & Furious 6: The Game habit, however.

10. Epic Empire (Pocket Gems)

I've only just started this city-building action RPG, and despite its rather complex IAP economy (which I am yet to fully work out), I do quite like it. It reminds me of Mobage's Blood Bros. but a lot more accessible, both in terms of look and feel.

11. Heroes & Havoc (Mobage)

Talking of Mobage, this game - developed by SuperSaga Studios - is a typical Mobage game in that I have not a clue what I am supposed to be doing. Everything appears to be very random, but a least it's not a card-battler, although is clearly inspired by the genre.

12. Flick Kick Football Legends (PikPok)

I don't think I will play this for too long, but the presentation is brilliant, as we expect from PikPok.

13. Clumsy Ninja (NaturalMotion)

Still not yet played.

Installed #1: OMG: TD! (Yodo1)

Not yet played.

Installed #2: Adventure Town (Supersolid)

Not yet played

Installed #3: Don't Shoot Yourself (Ayopa Games)

Not yet played.

Uninstalled #1 Stack Rabbit (Disney)

Cute colour puzzler, but not for me.

Uninstalled #2 Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Reliance)

Sadly, this appears to be a typical movie tie-in. Looks rushed and doesn't add anything to the 3D runner genre.

Uninstalled #3 Nin Jump Rooftops (Backflip)

Very nice twist on the endless 2D action runner, but not really my sort of game longterm. Just installed to check it out.

Weekly recapInstalled: 3

Uninstalled: 3

In Play: 12

To Be Played: 4

Spending: $4.99 on Friendly Fire

To-date 2013 'Life Time' Value: $99.99
