After eight years as director of the game division within US silicon company Qualcomm, Mike Yuen has left to join Zeebo, the Qualcomm-funded start up, which has just launched its eponymous console for emerging markets.
He joins Zeebo as Zeebo as SVP of worldwide content and services.
Together with Reinaldo Normand, Yuen was one of the key drivers behind Zeebo, which takes Qualcomm's chip IP, packages it as a games console and combines it with a wireless digital distribution system to overcome issues such as piracy and game pricing.
Zeebo launched in Brazil in July, and the company has plans to roll out the console and distribution service to Mexico in 2009, and India and China in 2010.
"Some of you know that I have been very closely involved with Zeebo since its founding in 2008 and the time is now right for me to go 'all in'," Yuen explains.
"I feel lucky and honored to have been part of the incredible Qualcomm experience and I thank you for your support of the company over the years on the various initiatives and projects that we may have worked on together."
