In yet another promo deal, location-based social app Foursquare has agreed to promote MTV and VH1 shows on its service; the TV network also signing up to the app's new Celebrity Mode feature.
As reported by Mobile Entertainment, Foursquare will plug locations used in shows such as The Hills, Real World, Jersey Shore, The T.O. Show and What Chilli Wants on the app.
In return, the network's stars will post 'tips' in real world venues for Foursquare users to see although their actual check-ins will, naturally, be hidden.
Seeing stars
"As Foursquare becomes more mainstream, we've been seeing more and more celebrity users want to sign up," said co-founder and CEO Dennis Crowley.
"Celebrity Mode allows high profile users to use Foursquare with their inner-circle friends while also allowing new ways for these users to connect with their fans.
"We're excited to partner with MTV and VH1 as it's a great opportunity to test drive our Celebrity Mode features with on-air personalities and the rest of the Foursquare community."
Check-in crazy
News of the deal which also promises "dedicated short form Foursquare programming" on the network's channels comes as TechCrunch has detailed the latest Foursquare usage statistics.
According to the company's data, network wide check-ins hit an all time high of 382,000 a day last week. The figure represents a great leap from Foursquare's last milestone of 1 million check-ins a week posted back in February.
The app was no doubt boosted by its appearance at the South by Southwest (SxSW) film and music festival in Austin earlier this month.
Fellow LBS app Gowalla claims it saw 135,000 check-ins in and around Austin during the length of the event.
