It's surprising how quickly and how deeply Google's Android mobile OS has connected with handset makers.
Experienced operators such as Symbian and Microsoft have been hit by its rise with the former going open source, and the latter spending time on a major reboot in the shape of Windows Phone 7.
As Google announced its Q1 2010 financials figures, more details about the growth of Android have been revealed.

In an earnings conference call with analyst, Jeff Huber, Google's senior vice president of engineering, said the OS is now on 34 devices from 12 manufacturers.
In addition, the company is seeing 60,000 Android devices activated per day. Annualised that would be 22 million devices, or double the total of Sony Ericsson (which launched its first Android device this year).
There are also 38,000 applications in Google's Android Market; most of them free.
Google CFO Patrick Pichette also revealed that the company's mainly direct-to-consumer smartphone Nexus One, was "a profitable business" for the company.
Available online, with some limited support from T-Mobile, the $529 phone will be rolled out on Sprint and Verizon in the US in future.
