Already commonplace on iPhone, Chinese developer turned mobile social network PapayaMobile has launched a new app discovery site on Android to help users cut through the growing number of titles on the platform.
Like similar efforts aimed iOS users, AndroidAppOfTheDay.net lists one free or 99c app on the site per day.
Naturally, the aim is to boost the sales of those signed up to the service, promoting their titles to an audience becoming increasingly swamped by an ever growing number of cheap and free apps.
Daily discount
Indeed, the company estimates a spot on its site will generate anywhere from 10,000 to 1 million additional downloads per month, with listings free for studios who sign up before September 12.
"Being game developers ourselves, we know how hard it is to get users to pay for a game they've never heard of," says CEO and co-founder Si Shen.
"It's even harder with more than 50 percent of Android apps being free, causing many users to basically ignore high quality games that have a download fee."
Free-for-all
PapayaMobile, which itself has a userbase four million strong, says the apps it pushes won't be limited to Android Market, either.
As long as the titles in question are either 99c or available without charge on their given day of promotion, they can be sold from whatever marketplace or website the developer favours.
"With our new Android App of the Day program, developers can offer their apps at a discounted price, or even free for a day, allowing them to gain traction with users and get word-of-mouth exposure," adds Shen.
Those looking to get involved advised to register on the company's website.
