Bring your smartphone games to PSP with Ideaworks Labs' Airplay Arcade
Having built out its Airplay multi platform mobile development environment across most smartphone operating systems, UK tools company Ideaworks Labs is now turning its attention to portable consoles.

It's announced Airplay Arcade, a partner product to its Airplay SDK, which supports iOS, Android, Symbian, bada, Windows Mobile, Brew and webOS.

Airplay Arcade will enable developers to port their smartphone titles to Sony's PSP console, with support for other portables planned.

Finger on the nub

As a partner product, games created using Airplay can be recompiled for PSP within Airplay Arcade, the step allowing developers to optimise for PSP's hardware and button-based control mechanics.

For this reason, Airplay Arcade requires developers to have an Airplay SDK seat licence, which costs $2,500 per seat per annum, although a free evaluation copies are available.

The Arcade business model involves a one off, per release fee of $10,000 for a single SKU, dropping to $5,000 per SKU if you're looking to release more than 30 SKUs.

Over 7,500 registered developers use the Airplay SDK, including publishers such as EA Mobile, Konami and PopCap.
