Android's recent surge in the US appears to be holding strong, with Nielsen reporting that it is now the most popular smartphone in the OS.
Nielsen states that Android phones make up 32 percent of all recent smartphone purchases as of August, with BlackBerry and iPhone fighting it out for second place on 26 percent and 25 percent respectively.
It's worth nothing, however, that the firm's numbers cover just one full month of iPhone 4 availability, with the likely sales spike that followed no doubt pushing Apple's share up a touch.
Bigging up BlackBerry
In terms of sales to date, RIM remains the top dog. Nielsen claims BlackBerry handsets account for 31 percent of all smartphones in the US, although the firm's share is falling.
28 percent of all smartphone owners have plumped for iPhone - which is roughly the share Apple has held since the start of Nielsen's study, back in January.
Indeed, it's Android that is making up the most ground, doubling from an 8 percent share at the start of 2010 to 19 percent in August.
