Demonstrating the transition of social game development from an interesting experiment for media brands to a core inhouse skill, FremantleMedia has announced it's taking a majority stake in Ludia Inc.
It previously owned 29 percent of the Montreal studio, but has now extended that to 80 percent.
The company explained the deal was part of its ongoing plan to diversify its business scope through the development of new entertainment business models and customers.
The price was right
Ludia has worked with Fremantle since 2008, making iOS, PC, Facebook and console games based on TV titles such as The Price is Right, Family Feud and Press Your Luck.
Ludia's president and founder, Alex Thabet, will continue in his position and the deal won't affect any of the firm's existing management team or thirdparty partnerships.
"Ludia is a leading creator of video games, and after building a successful relationship over the last few years we are delighted to fully welcome them into the FremantleMedia family," said FremantleMedia CEO Tony Cohen.
"Interactive gaming is an important way for FremantleMedia to diversify and this will increase our expertise and capability in this area, allowing both companies to develop even more successful consumer-facing entertainment across multiple platforms."
