Though not exactly cause for too much concern at Apple, news that Samsung's Galaxy S has become the top selling smartphone in Japan unseating the 32GB iPhone 4 in the process is nonetheless a headline grabber.
Japanese market research firm BCN claims the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S stormed to the top spot in the last week in October its first week on sale in the country.
Race of two halves
However, while Samsung will no doubt be pleased to generate some positive column inches at the expense of its American rival, pooling together sales of both the 32GB and 16GB handsets pushes iPhone back up the charts to the top spot.
Equally of note is the fact that, before this fall from grace, the two iPhone models previously held the top two spots in BCN's rankings for 18 straight weeks following their launch back in June.
Nevertheless, Samsung's Galaxy S is predicted to perform strongly in Japan, having launched on the country's largest operator NTT Docomo.
