Indie iPhone Holiday Sale raises $25,000; Canabalt's iOS source code released in response
Co-ordinated by Semi Secret's Adam Saltsman, the Indie iPhone Holiday Sale has been a massive success.

Taking the theme of PC Humble Indie Bundle to the App Store, six iPhone developers cut the prices of their games to 99c, with a third of the money generated being given to Child's Play.

Osmos, Drop7, Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, Canabalt, Eliss and Solipskier will remain on sale until December 31.

Giving it all away

However with over $25,000 raised, Saltsman has decided to take an extra step and open source Canabalt.

As he warns, despite selling 225,000 copies to-date, the game was a rather rushed Flash port. It was converted in 10 days to iOS, and released before the arrival of iPad or iPhone 4 so there are plenty of rough edges.

As for the legalese of the release, it's using the MIT license, which Saltsman describes as basically being "You can use it for anything you want, even for commercial stuff but it's not our fault if it doesn't work."

Canabalt-specific game code, game art, animation, music and sound effects are all proprietary, and protected by copyright and trademarks.
