Highlighted as a proof of concept rather than a nefarious hacking attempt, a video has been released showing someone has broken the DRM of the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.
Only the hacker and Microsoft, which has been provided with the code in order to fix to loophole, have access to the technology.
As explained, this is white hat operation so it won't be made available on the internet.
Free for all
In terms of how it works, it's a PC tool that accesses the Marketplace, downloads a file and strips off Microsoft's DRM, creating a DRM-free file, potentially enabling you to install paid apps and games onto your Windows Phone 7 device for free.
Developers have been warning for some time about the weakness of the Marketplace's DRM so hopefully this will kickstart Microsoft into beefing it up.
You can see a video of the tool in operation here.
