Given Gameloft's well established resistance to Android Market, it's not surprising the publisher would be looking for any other ways to get its titles on Android handsets.
Its latest tactic, much to the benefit of Sony Ericsson is to line up 10 games for the launch of the Xperia Play.
Game on for Sony Ericsson
Consisting of what the firm claims are its best sellers - Assassin's Creed, Uno, Let's Golf! 2, Spider-Man: Total Mayhem, Modern Combat: Black Pegasus, Real Football 2011, Brothers in Arms 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction all on board Gameloft claims its support for Xperia Play owes much to the progression the platform represents.
"I created Gameloft 10 years ago with the goal of bringing video games to all audiences," said president Michel Guillemot.
"The launch of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, certified by PlayStation, the first full-featured smartphone to include an exclusive gaming interface, means my initial goal can now become a reality. The controls on the Xperia PLAY enhance the gaming experience beautifully."
Friends first
Two further games - Asphalt 6: Adrenaline and Star Battalion will also be pre-loaded onto handsets.
It's a move Sony Ericsson head of marketing Steve Walker claims goes beyond mere token support it cements the close relationship between the two firms.
"Gameloft is one of Sony Ericsson's long-standing partners and we're delighted to have their support for the launch of Xperia Play, added Walker.
Gameloft has enjoyed enormous success in the downloadable video game market and we're thrilled to have them bring their unmatched knowledge and unique skills to creating fantastic games for Xperia Play."
