Anyone who thought they'd seen Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 in all its glory at Mobile World Congress in February could be in for a surprise when the unit hits the shelves supposedly later this month.
Speaking rather candidly, executive VP of mobile at Samsung Lee Don-Joo has admitted that the tablet might have to be redesigned in order to compete with Apple following the unveiling of iPad 2.
Eye on the competition
Of main concern is how thin Apple's forthcoming tablet is, coming in at 8.8 mm to Galaxy Tab 10.1's 10.9 mm.
"We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate," Don-Joo told Korean news agency Yonhap.
"Apple made it very thin."
Don-Joo also admitted iPad 2's pricing which matches the original model, the lowest priced unit coming in at $499 also represents a challenge, with Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 priced at just under $900 if purchased with a two year mobile contract.
"The 10-inch (tablet) was to be priced higher than the seven-inch but we will have to think that over."
Just whether this means Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be hauled in for a subtle redesign before launch which seems especially unlikely or revised editions will hit the shelves in the months that follow remains to be seen, however.
