Following on from the launch of Google's in-app billing system for Android Market, mobile infrastructure specialist Urban Airship has made public its own monetisation tool for the OS.
The firm's IAP platform simply named In-App Purchase has been developed in conjunction with Google and is designed to go beyond the self-imposed limits of Android's first-party solution.
As such, developers who employ the platform will be able to equip their titles with downloadable content that exceeds Google's 25MB limit, with delivery of the files handled via Urban Airship's own servers. It uses Android Market's one-click billing.
Flying high
"A lot of people are still talking about app downloads and tossing around some big numbers," said CEO Scott Kveton
"But true success on mobile comes from increased user engagement and the ability to turn a profit with an app. Our customers have been anxiously awaiting a user-friendly way to monetise on the Android platform and we are thrilled to be able to offer it now with our latest cross-platform offering."
Urban Airship has previous in the IAP market, having originally launched a similar solution for iOS, dubbed StoreFront, back in August 2009.
To date, the company has facilitated 2.8 million transactions a number that it expects to grow at a much faster rate now it's added Android to its line up.
It also offers Embedded Push, an alternate push notification system for Android.
