Halfbrick may be making a move of becoming a publisher in the west, but over in China, the Australian studio needs a little local help.
Up steps Android-based studio iDreamSky. The two parties have signed a deal that will see iDreamSky act as Halfbrick's official distribution partner in the country, taking advantage of what it claims is the former's 200 distribution channels.
First up will be the launch of Fruit Ninja on Android, which will also make use of iDreamSky's mobile gaming network Skynet.
Building with Halfbrick
"Halfbrick and Fruit Ninja are becoming more popular in China on a daily basis," said Halfbrick CEO Shainiel Deo.
"It's an amazing market and one we want to ensure has the best and most appropriate content for our millions of fans. Working with iDreamSky will help increase the game's overall brand awareness and expand Halfbrick's global reach."
The partnership is set to go beyond mere distribution rights, however.
iDreamSky has confirmed it will co-develop the feature phone version of Fruit Ninja with fellow Chinese developer and distributor VODone.
Sky's the limit
The firm has also been set to task of irradicating the Chinese market of fake Fruit Ninja clones, solidifying the game's place in the market.
"Fruit Ninja is one of the most popular mobile games of all time and this is an opportunity for further success in China," said iDreamSky CEO Michael Chen.
"This partnership allows us to expand the Fruit Ninja audience through our existing distribution channels."
