Firms come together on collectable card game

Nival invests undisclosed sum in HTML5 specialist Bytex
Chances are, any studios that specialise in HTML5 development will have potential suitors sniffing around them.

As the development of the platform continues apace, so Russian studio Nival has moved to invest in one of its flagbearers.

An undisclosed amount of money has been pumped into Bytex, with the two parties coming together to launch a new collectable card game Berserk: The Cataclysm as a result.

"Bytex is leading the online games industry in developing a great browser-based gaming experience through HTML5, an emerging technology for cross-platform gaming," said Nival founder and president Sergey Orlovskiy, of the new partnership.

"We want to help them grow this leadership position, which is very relevant to Nival. We view cross-platform gaming and innovation as two core company values."

Indeed, the ability to launch games across different platforms – iOS and Android, as well as Windows and Mac – appears to be behind Nival's move for the fellow Russian studio, with the firm looking to target any HTML5-compatible browsers both with Berserk: The Cataclysm and unannounced "future projects".
Berserk itself is currently in a round of beta testing via Facebook.
