Ever since Tim Schafer and Double Fine lifted the lid on Kickstarter's potential as an incubator for new games, the industry has been all of a buzz about crowdfunding.
It's hype that hasn't gone away with the likes of Peter Molyneux's recently-funded GODUS, either, though our understanding of crowdfunding's potential and the developers it can serve has definitely evolved.
Timely, then, that PocketGamer.biz's latest Mobile Games Briefing should focus on crowdfunding and its implications for the mobile development scene.
No gimmick
Led by GamesIndustry.biz founder Rob Fahey and with notable contributions from PocketGamer.biz news editor James Nouch, the report is designed to cast light on what funding a game means for backers, what gets them excited and how developers can best meet their needs.
"2012 was the year crowdfunding stopped looking like a gimmick, and started looking like a viable way for selected independent outfits to fund new creative projects," details the report's blurb.
"Answering these questions and capitalizing on the strengths and understanding the weaknesses of the crowdfunding paradigm is vital for any company thinking of tapping into the enthusiasm of the crowd in 2013."
The report can be downloaded from the Mobile Games Briefing website for a discounted fee of £79.
