The creators of the Android-based micro-console Ouya have teamed up with gaming website Kill Screen to launch an online game jam for the console open to developers worldwide.
Called 'CREATE', the jam will open for submissions on 14 January, at which point developers will have 10 days to enter playable prototypes for their Ouya games.
A grand prize of $20,000 will go to the game that demonstrates "the highest level of overall excellence."
Creative
Five other games will receive smaller prizes of $5,000 for achievements such as graphical excellence and the best controls.
Once submissions close on 23 January, the editorial team at Kill Screen will select winners assisted by a judging panel that includes the likes of Phil Fish, Ed Fries and Adam Saltsman.
Judging criteria include "purposely subjective views" of each game, the level of community support each submission accrues and each prototype's successful use of Ouya.
And as well as a $45,000 prize fund for these winners, a number of 'finalists' will also receive Ouya dev consoles.
In the pudding
Developers looking to enter CREATE will need to prove that they have pre-ordered an Ouya or backed the project on Kickstarter - a rule designed to prevent spam entries.
"We want winners to have the genuine intent to bring their game to Ouya," says the jam's fine print.
Aside from this, CREATE is free to enter. To find out more, visit the CREATE page on the Kill Screen website.
