Finish start-up Jolla, a company comprised of former Nokia employees wishing to create their own MeeGo-based smartphone, has recently completed a pre-sales campaign for the device.
After initially refusing to reveal how many devices had been ordered in the first pre-order batch - a move that understandably raised some questions regarding the success of the project - Jolla has put a figure out there, albeit a speculative one.
Reaching out to TechCrunch, a Jolla spokesperson explained that "Jolla is not giving out the exact number of devices pre-booked," due to "customer confidentiality".
"[However] it can be said that the size of the production batch for a mobile device vendor of this size is typically 50,000 units."
Second time lucky
Despite being coy about the official numbers, Jolla has expressed a desire to begin another pre-sales campaign in 2013, however nothing official has been confirmed yet.
We are delighted to see this great worldwide interest towards our very first device, said Tomi Pienimäki, CEO of Jolla, in a statement.
"For those, who missed the first opportunity, we are now doing our best to offer a second chance, a new batch of Jolla smartphones later in the autumn."

What do you call someone who has an unhealthy obsession with video games and Sean Bean? That'd be a 'Chris Kerr'. Chris is one of those deluded souls who actually believes that one day Sean Bean will survive a movie. Poor guy.
