Swedish real-money eSports gaming company Gumbler has raised €5 million in funding.
Investors in company include Inbox Capital and international sports professionals such as tennis star Robin Söderling, Sweden national football team captain Andreas Granqvist and ex-Sweden football international Martin Dahlin.
Gumbler’s real-money gaming platform works on mobile, tablet and desktop titles. It can only be used by players who are 18 years or older.
Winning bet
Each player puts in an entry fee for a skill-based game with friends, random competitors or a tournament. The winner will then receive a real-money reward for their efforts, plus other potential rewards that could be made available, such as for breaking a world record.
Developers can earn up to 50% of the profit generated from each real-money tournament played in their game.
The service has been launched in several mobile games including Mad Skills Motocross 2. Gumbler claims players of the latter game won a total of €650,000 in 2016.
Overall, the company claims it makes an average revenue of €45 per paying player each month.
“With this investment we have the possibility to not only expand within the mobile platform, but also to PC games which is currently dominating in the world of eSports,” said Gumbler CEO Patrik Nybladh.
“We will be able to offer the world’s best solution for both game developers as well as gamers who wants to enter eSports for real money.”
