Colombian developer Teravision Games has struck a deal with Mexican animation producer Anima Estudios to develop mobile titles based on its catalogue of TV shows and films.
Anima's roster includes El Chavo and Legend Quest, boasting a huge following in Latin America and beyond.
As for Teravision, the Bogotá-based firm is no stranger to partnering with major brands, having worked with the likes of Disney, Nickelodeon and Namco.
New territory
“This kind of alliance is common in the US and the Canadian market, but in Latin America it hasn’t been that easy to achieve,” Teravision Games CEO Enrique Fuentes told Variety.
“Now, Anima Estudios and Teravision Games, are looking to be the first, working on innovative ways to collaborate and capitalise on Latin America’s talent by joining forces and working together beyond the competition.”
Anima COO and Vice President Jose Garcia de Letona also described Teravision as "a perfect partner to increase the audiences for our stories and characters," going on to say that "ultimately, we’d like to make two apps a year”.
First Latin America, then the world
The first will be based on Anima Estudios' La Leyenda IP - released in English-speaking territories as Legend Quest - and is set to launch in "three-to-four weeks". The game will adopt a premium model, though it's yet to be decided if a free version will be made available.
"We’re not discarding the idea of adapting the game to PCs but the penetration of smartphones has outpaced PCs in Latin America,” added de Letona.
To reflect this local focus, the game will be launched first in Latin America before being made available worldwide.
