EA has closed down the Macclesfield office for its third-party mobile publishing label Chillingo, PocketGamer.biz understands.
Multiple sources familiar with the matter have said that the UK HQ was shut down earlier this year and a number of staff made redundant.
A handful of remaining employees are said to work remotely in the UK while the rest of the team is based in the US.
New focus
These staff will mostly focus on managing existing games and just a select number of core titles a year, rather than publishing lots of different games on a more regular basis.
It is understood the Chillingo publishing label will continue to operate.
We have reached out to EA for comment on the matter.
Titles published by Chillingo include WarFriends, Iron Force, Micro Machines and Puzzle Craft 2, to name a few.
The mobile games publisher was acquired by EA in 2010 for a reported $20 million. Prior to that, Chillingo had published popular titles such as Angry Birds and Cut The Rope.
