King's evergreen Candy Crush Saga was the highest grossing mobile game from a Western developer for the three months ending June 30th 2018, according to Sensor Tower.

The mobile intelligence firm said App Store and Google Play users spent around $213 million in the game during the quarter. That’s an increase of 18 per cent year-on-year.

Around 56 per cent of that spend was said to have come from the US. The second most lucrative country for the title is thought to be the UK, though it delivered a comparatively small six per cent.

Global competition

While Candy Crush Saga was the top grossing mobile game from a Western developer, it ranked sixth overall worldwide.

Games it did top however including Niantic's Pokemon Go, Gungho's Puzzle & Dragons and Supercell's Clash Royale.

Spending in Candy Crush Saga still eclipses other franchise entries. Candy Crush Soda Saga was said to rank 19th in the high grossing chart across both app stores for the quarter, while Candy Crush Jelly Saga ranked 127th.
