US mobile games firm Mpowerplayer has announced a Series A funding round of $2.5 million, including participation from New Atlantic Ventures, LaunchBox Digital, and the Center for Innovative Technology GAP Fund.
The company offers a widget-based mobile games catalogue for social networks and other gaming sites, aiming to make it easier for people to discover and download games to their phones.
"Casual web gamers are a hugely under-served market for mobile content and we are uniquely positioned to bridge that gap," says CEO Michael Powers.
The company is already working with publishers including EA Mobile and Sega Mobile, and is picking up a head of steam in the rollout of its technology.
Although it says the funding will be used to accelerate adoption of its widgets, it remains to be seen how exactly the money will be spent to continue this growth.
