Major US retailers are reporting initial Nexus 7 stock is fast being eaten into after the tablet made its debut on 13 July.
According to a report by Reuters, consumer demand for Google's debut tablet is high, with GameStop claiming its already worked through much of its early stock.
Sell out
"We blew through the first two allotments," a spokesperson for the games retailer said in a statement.
Both the Wal-Mart owned Sam's Club and office specialist Staples also reportedly sold out quickly at launch, with websites for both chains listing the device as 'out of stock' before the end of day one.
Nexus 7 enters a market still dominated by iPad, with some sweeps of the market suggesting Apple's device still boasts a 90 percent share despite concerted challenges by Samsung's Galaxy Tab and RIM's PlayBook, amongst others.
The $199 starting point for Google's tablet, however, has led many commentators to suggest that it's Amazon's Kindle Fire, rather than Apple's all-conquering iPad, that will serve as Nexus 7's primary target.
