In a move that looks to widen the mystery, Apple has revealed why it pulled AppGratis from the App Store.
According to AllThingsD, an Apple spokesman confirmed that, as many expected, it had violated rule 2.25 of the App Store Review Guideline; the so-called 'apps that could be confused for an app store' clause.
However, it added AppGratis had also broken clause 5.6.
This says "Apps cannot use Push Notifications to send advertising, promotions, or direct marketing of any kind".
It's my party
As anyone who as installed apps from any of the free app promotion and discovery services will attest, all of them effectively break this clause daily by advertising their promoted apps.
Combined with the similar catch-all nature of clause 2.25 for such services, the news merely confirms suspicions that AppGratis was pulled from the App Store for being too successful.
We await to see on whom the axe falls next...
