In most cases, publishers stop short of singling out the type of gamer a title is aimed at whether it's a horse grooming sim, or a blood-splattered FPS, the target market tends to be obvious.
In the case of the firm's new free-to-play city-builder for iPhone and iPad Fantasy Town, however, Gameloft has branded the title its first game specifically "designed for girls".
No fantasy
"In Fantasy Town, you can build your imaginary city and help it grow in a breathtaking, magical world," Gameloft says of the release.
"You can complete various missions and earn rewards that will allow you to transform your city into a flourishing and serene town.
"Take a break from building your city by chasing away monsters in a mini-game."
In a bid to appeal to what's perceived as the more social bent accommodated by female gamers, Fantasy Town will let users link the game to Facebook via Facebook Connect, allowing them to invite friends to their village or visit theirs, if they have one.
