News that the App Store has passed 500,000 apps would typically be unveiled at an Apple press conference,..
However, three parties have decided to come together and jump the gun, revealing said milestone via a detailed, and especially lengthy, infographic.
The figure, published by 148Apps, Chomp and Chillingo, relates to the number of apps that have been approved to run on the platform, rather than those currently sitting on the marketplace.
Indeed, the infographic reports that there are roughly 400,000 live apps on the App Store, though that still puts it comfortably ahead of Android Market on 294,000.
App attack
"The fact that it has taken less than three years to reach this number is remarkable," said 148Apps founder Jeff Scott.
"With the improved tools for developers and steady adoption of smartphone technology, I anticipate there is still a lot of runway."
Also detailed is the news that Rovio's Angry Birds is the title to hold top spot for the longest, having been the #1 paid app on the App Store for a total of 275 days in total.
That puts it well ahead of The Moron Test on 38 days, and Moto Chaser on 27 days.
Paying to play
The infographic also suggests that paid apps still make up the majority on the platform, with 64 percent of the market. Paid apps also come in with an average price of $3.64.
The infographic in full can be seen on a newly created Facebook page.
