Since it was revealed at Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona, concrete details regarding Nokia and Intel's collaborative MeeGo (Maemo meets Moblin) operating system come future platform initiative have been hard to come by.
Finally though, a company has come out to support it with UK carrier Orange announcing a strategic agreement with Intel to offer a range of multimedia services and devices.
Orange says it will work with Intel to deliver services, such as Orange TV and Orange Maps, via hardware ranging from smartphones and tablets to netbooks that use Intel's Atom silicon and MeeGo software.
You go, MeeGo, we all go
"Seventy-five percent of our customer base has yet to embrace the mobile internet.
"With the increasing number of phones and operating systems for customers to choose from, it's our role to make sure our customer's journey into this richer mobile multimedia environment is simple and easy," said Yves Maitre, senior VP of devices at Orange.
"Our collaboration with Intel on the MeeGo software platform will not only ensure a broader choice in terms of screens and devices, but that customers continue to benefit from a consistent user experience delivered through Orange Signature services, including a customised home screen they trust and recognise, the highest quality network and secure and simplified billing."
"Orange and Intel share a similar vision around digital devices and consumer experiences and our joint work will connect people to the content that matters most, wherever they may be," said Doug Fisher, Intel's vice president, software and services group.
