As part of its Q2 2011 financials, a resurgent Glu Mobile has announced it's acquired two studios.
Toronto-based start up Blammo Games was set up in 2011 by Christopher Locke, who previously headed up the Capcom's Mobile studio in Canada that developed the massively successful Smurfs' Village and the slightly less so Zombie Cafe.
The deal follows on from the previous two game deal Glu had with the studio that included the option to purchase a 25 percent stake in the company.
Need a bigger boat
Much more ambitious however is the purchase of Griptonite Games, previously part of the Foundation 9 development group.
Based in Kirkland, Washington, USA, it's a 200-strong studio, including an satellite office in Hyderabad, that's developed games ranging from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for GBA to titles for Kinect, Nintendo 3DS, PS Vita, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Mobile games it's made include Assassin's Creed II: Discovery, Atari Football and Dungeon Solitaire.
"We are very excited to have completed the acquisitions of two new studios - Griptonite and Blammo - which will both add significant scale to our product portfolio in 2012," said Glu CEO Niccolo de Masi.
"The integration of these acquisitions will approximately double our internal studio capacity as well as add proven, casual, freemium DNA to our team."
[Details of the cost of the acquisitions were provided in an earnings call.]
Glu also has development talent in the US, Russia, China and Brazil.
